This course provides the necessary training for Community Paramedics who require TDG certification to transport biological substances. Certification is required every 3 years.
Describe the purpose, scope, and regulatory requirements of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Act and Regulations, 1992.
Classify dangerous goods—particularly infectious substances—within the nine TDG hazard classes, including their associated divisions, labels, and markings.
Apply TDG requirements when preparing, packaging, labelling, and documenting dangerous goods for transport.
Demonstrate the role-specific responsibilities of Community Paramedics in shipping, handling, and transporting dangerous goods.
Follow step-by-step procedures for handling specimens and diagnostic materials before, during, and after transport, including appropriate spill-response actions.
Use the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) and other TDG tools to recognize hazards and determine the correct initial response to incidents involving dangerous goods.
Utilize and properly deploy TDG Spill Kit components as part of a safe and compliant spill or leak response.
Safely assess and approach dangerous goods transport scenes and accurately communicate critical information to fire services and other emergency responders.
Communicate effectively during specimen transfer or test-result handoff using structured frameworks such as SBAR or SOAP.
Ensure safe transport of dangerous goods by securing packages in the vehicle, selecting appropriate packaging, and maintaining chain of custody throughout the process.
