This method makes it easier for those with busy schedules to get the most out of their learning.   • Differentiate between subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous medication administration

  • Describe the rationale and procedure for intravenous therapy

  • Discuss indications and rationale for performing peripheral venipuncture and perform collection venous blood specimens

  • Discuss indications for oral and nasal gastric tube insertion.

  • Discuss the indications and rationale for performing specimen collection including urinalysis, sputum, and swabs

  • Demonstrate wound assessments and perform and manage wound care

  • Perform urinary catheterization and assess for complications

  • Perform Central Venous Line procedures

  • Utilize diagnostic tools and point of care devices including spirometry

  • Demonstrate effective, appropriate and timely performance of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures relevant to patient care Select medically appropriate investigation methods

  • Who is this course for?

    This course is designed to provide Community Paramedics with advanced assessment skills and specialized therapeutics required in this growing field. Students will gain a foundational knowledge and feel confident expanding their knowledge in this field through further education. This course is a great addition to your CP continuing education program. Note: This course is a required course in the Certificate in Community Paramedicine Care program.

  • How long does it take to complete this course?

    Students may complete this course in as little as one month however you will have access to the course for one year.

  • How do I know I will be competent in the content after this course?

    Students will perform virtual OSCEs with other students throughout this course to practice their assessment skills and knowledge. Evaluations are based on the content provided in videos, interviews, research papers and required readings. Content is competency-based meaning each course addresses specific competencies necessary for the student to master. Instruction is provided using a range of resources and much of the content is reviewed or taught by healthcare experts in their respective fields for specific courses. We always recommend implementing a continuing education and review routine for yourself to ensure knowledge retention, patient safety and clinical competence and confidence.

  • What are the prerequisite for this program?

    There are no prerequisites for this program however prior health & wellness education is recommended in order to get the most out of this course.
